Frequently Asked Questions
A pressure transducer converts pressure into an unamplified electrical signal (typically mV/V or 0-5V). A pressure transmitter includes signal conditioning electronics that amplify and convert the signal to an industry-standard output like 4-20mA or 0-10V — making it suitable for long cable runs and noisy industrial environments.
Select a sensor whose full-scale range is 120-150% of your maximum expected operating pressure. Oversizing too much reduces effective resolution and increases relative error. Our application engineers can help — contact us with your requirements.
4-20mA (current loop) is preferred for industrial environments: immune to electrical noise, supports 1,000+ feet cable runs. 0-10V is simpler for data loggers and PLC inputs, but keep cables under 50 feet. We offer both on most models.
Alpha recommends annual calibration for most applications. Critical environments may require semi-annual per regulatory requirements. All sensors ship with NIST-traceable calibration certificates. We offer factory recalibration — contact us for RMA.
